We have reached out to our Local and State Members or Parliament for assistance in working with Kingston Council to come to a fair & reasonable solution. We understand Kingston has an issue with dogs and potential "hygiene & allergy" issues, but hope that our 25 year history with no complaints will support our case.
Families seeking professional Family Pet Education Classes should have community facilities available to them, giving people choice between amateur or professional instruction in puppy raising. Lack of early training & socialisation leads to potential dog problems in the future!
Families welcoming new puppies are shocked to hear that Kingston Council want us to cease running classes at the Carrum Community Hall from 31 December. Sad news for all those families trying to do the right thing & learn as much as possible to raise and train their new pup well, to prevent any behavioural problems. Students requiring support in their training are also upset.
These families, like me, are struggling to understand WHY? Surely preventing problems with dogs should be a priority for all Councils, given the increase of dog problems, incidents and attacks. These people, seeking professional support, deserve to be able to access it in a community environment -
"We are welcoming a puppy into our home on November 10th aged 8 weeks. As we are first-time dog owners, we want to make sure we are setting him up for the happiest, most love filled and most successful life possible."
"I am looking for a puppy class that teaches positive reinforcement methods. We get ours at 9 weeks around the 23rd November. Do you have any classes running that would fit these timings? The pup is for our daughter who has learning difficulties."
"I work for the Lost Dogs Home in the Behaviour Department. I'm currently completing my Delta Cert IV and am required to shadow a professional trainer. Either PPGA or Delta certified. I asked around and you were highly recommended."
If you believe community facilities should be available for community based Family Dog Education classes, please keep sharing our petition and write to Mr Peter Bean, CEO, City of Kingston - info@kingston.vic.gov.au
