Allow creative expression by removing restrictive filters

The Issue

I remember the joy and excitement I felt when I first stumbled across online stories and artworks that were bold, daring, and utterly groundbreaking. These creative works, often containing adult themes and imagery, were not just entertaining—they were art that challenged our perceptions, made us think, and oftentimes, connected us on a deeper level. As a viewer, to witness the unfiltered creativity of these artists, storytellers, and creators was a privilege.

However, in recent times, I have noticed a concerning trend: an increasing number of platforms (e.g. Polybuzz) are restricting creative expression by imposing strict filters, relying heavily on AI-generated content moderation (e.g. images), and outright banning NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content, do to new strict policies. These measures, although well-intentioned to create safe spaces, often result in the suppression of genuine artistic endeavours and the voices behind them.

It's essential to acknowledge that creative expression is not inherently dangerous or inappropriate. Instead, it reflects the complexity of human experiences, including themes that are not always suitable for all ages.

Therefore, it's crucial to allow the coexistence of adult content with proper, clear guidelines that ensure it is accessible only to those who choose to engage with it. This way, we can protect those who should not see such content while respecting and fostering artistic freedom.

I propose that we re-evaluate these restrictive measures and make adjustments that recognise the value of creative expression. Platforms should:

1. Implement a clear and robust explanation that the App is meant and intended for 18+ users.

2. Encourage the labelling and filtering of content without imposing blanket bans on creative works.

3. Offer content creators the freedom and tools to express their visions while remaining compliant with community guidelines designed to protect underage users.

By taking these steps, we can build a vibrant, inclusive environment for both creators and audiences—one that celebrates rather than stifles diverse forms of expression.

It's time to stand up for the right to create, explore, and appreciate art in all its forms. Please join me in urging content platforms to embrace creativity by removing overreaching filters and allowing creators the freedom they deserve. Sign this petition and be part of a movement that promises to bring back the joy and connection that comes from truly uninhibited creativity.
