Due to the numerous wind and hail storms, numerous residents researched and submitted multiple options for alternative roofing materials with higher wind and hail ratings than what was previously approved. On May 3, 2024, the Lantana Community Association posted and distributed “Updated Roofing Guidelines” stating “Alternatively, metal shake-style roofing may be considered.” Since that time, several requests were approved by the ARC for TEK metal shake-style roofing and these roofs have been installed.

The week of June 10, 2024, residents started being informed that the HOA board was placing a hold on additional ARC approvals of this product even though it had already been approved and installed in the community. On June 14, 2024, the Association posted and distributed an update confirming a moratorium on shake style roofing.

These and similar products have the ability to save homeowners hundreds of thousands of dollars in insurance premiums and deductibles over the lifetime of their home in Lantana, and millions of dollars in insurance claims.

As this has already been approved and installed in the community, a precedent has been set, and the aesthetics of the community have already changed. It is unfair to grant this option to some members, but not all members.

As time is of the essence for homeowners needing repairs, this petition urges the Board to immediately reinstate the previous ruling that this product can be approved, pending ARC approval, before legal action becomes necessary.
