Allow ATVs on Cook County forest preserve trails

Allow ATVs on Cook County forest preserve trails
The Issue
In the Greater Cook County of Illinois, fans of ATVs, OHVs, and off-highway motorcycles find themselves missing out on trails to explore and enjoy. It feels frustrating to see miles of trails going unused while our community of riders have no sanctioned area to enjoy our passion. Meanwhile, numerous horse trails sit idle, their equestrian centers having been demolished. This disparity needs to be addressed to create a more inclusive environment for all outdoor enthusiasts.
Illinois is known for its love of outdoor recreational activities, yet we find a gap in accommodations for those who enjoy off-road adventures. According to the Outdoor Recreation Economy report, outdoor recreation accounts for billions in consumer spending and has resulted in the creation of jobs and revenue. By opening up the unused horse trails to ATVs and other off-road vehicles, not only will we address the growing demand for such spaces but also contribute to the local economy.
There needs to be a change. By allowing designated trails for ATVs and other off-road vehicles, we can ensure that these areas are used efficiently and responsibly, keeping natural paths preserved by setting strict guidelines for their use. By engaging with local authorities and environmental experts, we can develop eco-friendly solutions to maintain the beauty of our forest preserves.
I urge the Cook County Forest Preserve District to consider the potential benefits of allowing ATVs on these trails. Let’s take advantage of these underutilized spaces and create a vibrant community where outdoor enthusiasts can coexist. Please join me in signing this petition to make a difference for all off-road lovers in Greater Cook County. Together we can ensure everyone has a place to enjoy their pursuits.
Not to mention on a lot of the trails in upper cook county have horse trails but there are rarely any horses on them and the stables where the horses would come from have been demolished leaving those horse trails useless.
