The Issue

I'm a student from LCPS, passionate about coding but unfortunately, I can't explore my potential fully because LCPS doesn't allow access to GitHub for middle and elementary school students. GitHub is not just a platform, it's a world-renowned software development hub, which is widely used by individuals and organizations alike. It offers a vast range of possibilities for young coders, from project collaboration, open-source contribution, learning from others' code, to showcasing work, and even finding potential job opportunities.

The current restriction on GitHub access at LCPS not only limits the potential of young, budding coders like myself but it's also a barrier against developing vital 21st-century skills. A survey from Indeed reports that software development skills are among the most in-demand in the job market. Blocking access to such an important resource is potentially hampering our future education and career opportunities.

Therefore, we urge LCPS to reassess their restrictions, considering the educational and future importance of platforms like GitHub. Lifting this block can bring a world of opportunities to students by providing access to a resource that could spark and cultivate our interest in a field that is becoming crucial in today's digital age. Let's equip our students with the skills needed for the future - we urge you to sign this petition.
