Allow ABA Therapists In JoCo EC Classrooms

The Issue

This petition is for parents/guardians/supporters of autistic children in Johnston County Public Schools, who are wanting their child's ABA therapist allowed in the classroom to help provide additional services during school hours.

One of the biggest struggles in JoCo schools is staffing shortages, and the ability to provide the additional care our AU/EC students need. Teachers are already overworked and underpaid in traditional classrooms, but to task EC teachers with ensuring each individual student in class has their specific goals met is near impossible. By allowing ABA therapists to be involved in the classroom it will help the student reach their goals both inside the class and outside, while also allowing additional support for the teacher with said student.

Several counties across North Carolina have started implementing this addition, and are seeing higher success rates with their AU/EC students. Most states already allow for a child's therapist to attend schools as their one on one aid, but sadly North Carolina is dramatically behind with ensuring our AU/EC students have as many opportunities as possible to succeed.

The time to act is now, so no additional child has to have delayed educational tools at their disposal and to help ensure they have a bright future!
