The Issue

I am a student facing significant challenges in my academic journey, not due to lack of effort or passion, but primarily due to the constraints imposed by financial hardship and health issues. Coming from a financially disadvantaged background and belonging to a backward class, I cannot afford the costly education and resources necessary to compete on an equal footing with my peers in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced.

The JEE Advanced is a gateway for aspiring engineers in India to gain admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Currently, the JEE Advanced examination regulations allow only two attempts. However, for students like myself who face significant obstacles such as health-related setbacks and lack of adequate financial resources, two attempts are not always enough to showcase our true potential.

For me and many other students facing similar issues, this limitation poses a significant barrier to our dreams of pursuing higher education. The restriction does not account for extenuating circumstances such as prolonged illness or lack of resources that may require additional time to prepare adequately. It is essential that the examination authorities recognize and accommodate such cases by allowing a third attempt, particularly for those facing verifiable hardships.

According to a report by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, a substantial number of students are unable to pursue higher education due to financial constraints. With education being a fundamental right and cornerstone for personal and societal development, it is crucial to provide equitable opportunities to all, regardless of their socio-economic background.

By permitting a third attempt for the JEE Advanced over three consecutive years, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) and the Ministry of Education can help level the playing field for disadvantaged students. This change would offer a crucial lifeline to many deserving candidates, empowering them to work towards their aspirations without the limitations imposed by circumstances beyond their control.

I urge the Joint Admission Board and the Ministry of Education to consider this plea, not only for my sake but for countless other students striving to overcome their circumstances and achieve academic success. Please sign this petition to support a fair chance for all students who are determined to pursue their dreams against all odds.
