Allocate PTA Funds for a Parent-lead Field Trip for Mrs. Sandhu's 4th/5th Grade Class

Allocate PTA Funds for a Parent-lead Field Trip for Mrs. Sandhu's 4th/5th Grade Class
The Issue
As a deeply engaged parent and active PTA member at Steven Millard Elementary School, I am reaching out with a personal concern shared by many parents of students in the 5th grade. My daughter, like many of her peers, have reached the 5th grade without experiencing a single field trip, while other students have been on at least two or more. Despite yearly fundraising efforts, no class trip has been organized for our children. It is a disappointment to our children and parents.
This reality is not restricted to my child; several others in this class also have not been on a single field trip while in elementary school. The enriching experience of a field trip – a vital part of elementary education that encourages experiential learning and enhanced social skills – has so far been absent in their academic journey.
We are particularly concerned about the recent decision made by Mrs.Burney, the teacher of the 4th/5th grade class, who has communicated to us by email that she will not be taking the students on any field trip this year.
In light of these facts, we respectfully request the PTA to consider our proposal: using the funds that have been raised, we parents can collaboratively organize a weekend field trip for our class. As parents, we are invested in our children's well-rounded education and are prepared and willing to supervise this outing.
According to a study published by Sage Journals, field trips contribute to the development of students' lifelong cultural capital and improve their creativity, critical thinking, and historical empathy. We believe our children deserve these benefits.
Please support us in this endeavor to enrich our children’s educational experience by signing this petition. Our children, their peers, and future students will thank you for it. Let us make this field trip possible for the 4th/5th grade class and set a positive precedent for future actions. Thank you for your consideration.
