The Issue
ALL SKIN COLOURS ARE BEAUTIFUL
Who is impacted?
Every day thousands of advertisements for fairness creams and special lighting prey on our minds. The idea that some skin tones are better than others is a harmful colonial mindset. The hurtful neighbour and relative will always be commenting on the colour of someone’s skin. These comments have no age bar as they often start from the day a child is born. Fairness creams containing steroids damage the skin. The hurtful taunts damage the mental health of those it is directed towards. THIS STOPS NOW. Members of IADVL and the youth wing IADVL YUVA, a society of registered and qualified dermatologists receive requests on a daily basis to lighten the skin tone of babies as young as one year old. This skin health day, April 6, 2024, we invite you to take the pledge to stop commenting on people’s skin tones and to stop adding it to matrimonial profiles.
What can you do?
Sign the “ALL SKIN COLOURS ARE BEAUTIFUL” pledge today and abide by it. Then ask five more friends and family members to join us. Let us reach 1 million people standing against colourism. This pledge is available in multiple regional languages.

2. I denounce the use of discriminatory terms on matrimonial and dating profiles
3. I will point out and educate people that the use of these terms is offensive
4. I will boycott those brands that advertise some skin tones as better than others.
