All professional theatre venues should have 'no singing along' warnings before musicals.

The Issue

Musical theatre performers are being disrespected more and more with audience members singing over them, shouting and talking during performances and ruining the experience for other theatre goers. This seems to be more of a problem on UK touring productions.

Theatre is a place of escape and entertainment and so many loyal theatre fans are feeling shut out by increasing levels of antisocial behaviour during shows. This is worse in 'Jukebox' shows like The Bodyguard, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys etc. but is now seeping into all kinds of musical theatre.

I know it won't solve the issues completely, but one way to tackle this is for all West End/UK professional venues to make a commitment to give clear theatre etiquette announcements before each show and make audiences aware that they will be removed from the theatre if they break these rules. It ruins the experience for others, including the cast that we've paid so much money to see. With ticket prices going up all the time, theatre fans may end up unable to justify going anymore if it becomes a lottery as to what the audience will be like.
