CS in all HS is now Law in NJ

Good news first: Governor Christie signed into law today that all high schools in NJ must offer Computer Science classes starting in 2018-19. This will ensure all students in NJ have the opportunity to study computer science. NJ is the 5th state to pass this requirement. Thank you all for your support on this bill. It would not have passed without you. Not so good news (but we will deal with it) The bill to create a Computer Science teaching endorsement has been pocket vetoed. We are not sure why but believe that it may have been due to some minor concerns in wording. We have already reached out to the sponsors of this bill to encourage them to reintroduce it in this session. This bill has become even more important as we will need many more qualified CS teachers to offer CS in all HS. Our hope is that by offering CS in all HS, we can give all students the opportunity to pursue high paying and rewarding careers in Computer Science. This is especially important in low income situations where these skills can take many students from low income to middle income in a short period of time. We are looking forward to working with Governor Murphy's administration to implement these changes. The state with the best Computer Science education will attract the high paying jobs that need to be filled (500,000+ unfilled CS jobs in USA). Computer Science Education: Good for our Students .
