A huge step forward for MenB protection, a wider rollout is still needed to protect all young people

Today, after 2 years of campaigning in Alfie's name and with more than 80,843 people standing behind Alfie's Legacy, I was told earlier this week the  Government would announce a MenB vaccination programme for Year 13 students and first-time university entrants.

This is a hugely positive step and one that will undoubtedly save lives. I am incredibly grateful to every single person who has signed, shared, supported and helped raise awareness of meningococcal disease.

However, whilst I welcome this decision wholeheartedly, I cannot ignore the fact that many young people remain unprotected simply because they fall outside this one-year cohort. Meningitis does not discriminate based on a date of birth.

Three years after losing my beautiful son Alfie, I remain committed to ensuring that no other family has to experience the devastating loss that ours has endured. Today's announcement shows that change is possible, but our work is not yet finished.
