Signatures Near 500! Circuit Court Complaint Filing Announced!
May 8, 2019 —
Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition so far. We are sitting at 479 and growing rapidly. Please remember to share the link as numbers will matter to City Hall ultimately. http://chng.it/mn6JWHGyJj
The Port City Wire posted a fairly objective blog about the slaughterhouse debacle. Only a few negative posts, so feel free to chime in. Here is the link: https://portcitywire.com/2019/05/06/much-ado-in-alexandria-over-a-chicken-slaughterhouse/
Also, the Zebra Press has been posting our status. Tonight they posted an article about the Complaint that was recently filed with the circuit court. They got most of it right. https://thezebra.org/2019/05/07/circuit-court-complaint-filed-against-city-for-halal-slaughterhouse/?fbclid=IwAR2ePfZb2XT0QPpZ73dyX_nculOvj6_qTbDB_PiA9gkJGfJdbP4kJu55Jnc
We will keep you posted on our next steps. The Alliance for a Slaughter-Free Alexandria is a grassroots effort to bring to light the lack of due diligence on the part of our Planning Staff, the Planning Commission and the Alexandria City Council on the impacts of this use and the SUP approval process. Our goal is to get this SUP rescinded either voluntarily by City Council or by the Courts. We will certainly need all the help that we can get. We would like to develop a website and a logo, and maybe a Facebook Page too, and would love any help we can get in those areas.
Please email me at email@example.com if you have any talents or resources in those areas. Also, I noticed that Change.org is asking for donations. These requests are not coming from us directly. Depending on how long this suit drags on and the resources we currently have to fund it, we may be looking to start a Go Fund Me page at some point. So, please save your donations until we really ask for them.
Thank you again for your support!
All my best,
Sandy Modell Alliance for a Slaughter-Free Alexandria (ASFA)
