The Issue
UEFA, European football’s governing body, must cut ties immediately with Russian state energy company Gazprom.
Gazprom is a multinational energy corporation and the largest company in Russia by revenue. The Russian state owns the majority of the company: Gazprom’s revenues are Russia’s revenues.
Gazprom’s 2018-21 sponsoring deal was reportedly worth roughly €40mn a season to UEFA. Gazprom continues to fund UEFA to this day, after renewing its Champions League’s sponsorship in May 2021. Alexander Dyukov, chief executive of Gazprom Neft, is also a member of UEFA’s executive committee.
As Russia is invading Ukraine, shelling Ukrainian cities and killing civilians, tell UEFA to say no to Gazprom’s tainted money and keep the game beautiful.
