Dear Supporter,

In September 2019, we met with Aldi's pork supplier and then PR team to discuss gestation crates in its supply chain. After the meeting, Aldi updated its animal welfare policy to read, "We expect our suppliers to pursue the elimination of crates for pregnant sows in favor of group housing."

However, two years later, there is no evidence of any progress:

  • Aldi does not respond to emails asking whether it has made any progress toward the goal of eliminating gestation crates
  •  Aldi offers no response to our suggestion of moving from an "expectation" to a true commitment and a timeline
  • Aldi will not say whether it has any "reporting mechanisms" to ensure that its suppliers are eliminating gestation crates
