Good afternoon everyone! Some interesting developments have arisen that require your help!
To begin with, a group called “Stop Crowsnest Mines” has been attempting to collect as many hard-copy signatures as they can in order to reinstate the previous coal policy, which would protect the same natural areas we are trying to save. They are collecting hard-copy signatures because in order to submit a petition to the Alberta Government, the signatures must be physical; they cannot be electronic. As such, this group aims to collect as many signatures as possible from Alberta residents to show the government how wide-scale the opposition is to the open-pit mines. We (the petition's creators) have already added our signatures, but the more signatures they get, the better. If you are currently living in Alberta, it would be a big help if you could add your signature to the petition. The petition has locations in several urban centers (including Calgary and Crowsnest Pass). The link to the locations can be found here: https://www.stopcrowsnestmines.org/petition
If you want to support the cause even more, please leave a comment stating your opposition to the Grassy Mountain Coal Mine on the federal government’s website and send them an email. We need more comments supporting our position. A minimum of 1000 would be great, so please leave a comment there and share the link with everyone you know. The link to the federal webpage is here https://iaac-aeic.gc.ca/050/evaluations/proj/80101 while the link to a quick email generator to the federal and provincial governments is found here https://www.endangeredecosystemsalliance.org/news/2020/7/21/stop-open-pit-coal-mining-in-alberta#:~:text=On%20May%2015%2C%202020%20the,province%27s%20Rocky%20Mountains%20and%20foothills .
Finally, there is another petition that could use our support. The Alberta Government not only wants to rip up our natural areas, but wants to sell off our parks as well. This petition is calling on the government to stop this immediately. Take a look if you want to defend Alberta’s parks! The link is here https://act.leadnow.ca/dont-let-kenney-privatize-nature/ for the petition and here https://action.cpaws.org/page/57187/action/3 for an email generator.
That is all for now. Stay tuned for future opportunities to help protect our natural areas!
