It’s becoming more clear each day how little the administration was holding to their word. We were told that they would hold off on consolidation and give us a year to promote. But instead moved ahead as planned.
Teachers were told not to tell the parents about the consolidation. We all thought it was on hold. But in such a small community like CHEP things don’t stay secret for very long. They were worried about a mass exodus. But it’s not an exodus if they push us out, with no chance to make plans.
More recently, they told us that they would hold off until June 1st. It appears that that was also a lie. Before the deadline, the teachers at the North and West sites were told to start boxing things up for recycling (no one's sure what that means) or tossing out. Books, educational supplies, curriculums, good new stuff already paid for. The idea being that there is not enough room at the new location, and more brand new things would be bought to replace them (costing even more money).
It’s just heartbreaking how much of a waste it all is. Teachers were laid off or forced into retirement, children are losing their school, the administration is wasting money. Morale is at an all time low among parents and teachers, and it’s hard to imagine things changing. But we have to try. What do we have to lose.
If you are as upset about this as I am then please be at the meeting on June 12th, even if you don’t speak. These meetings do make a difference.
