Wow! 24 hours ago I started a campaign to gain support so that Airport Authorities would recognise the risks of insulin pumps and security x-ray machines and train their staff accordingly after we were held in a Dubai Airport Police Room for 2 hours on 4 June.
I have since contacted Dubai Airport, TSA, Embassies, Government Bodies, JDRF, Diabetes UK, Animas, Civil Aviation Authority, among others and the campaign has now received support from over 500 people! However, more importantly I have received 100s of messages from other insulin pump users who have experienced inconsistent, stressful, and potentially dangerous situations at airport security around the world.
As we have passed the 500 mark, I have now sent a Press Release to the airport and aviation industry media including Airport Operators Association, Transportation Security Policy, International Airport Review, Airport Improvement Magazine, Airports of the World, Airport World Magazine, etc. and also to high profile travel magazines. Hopefully this will reach a worldwide audience of airport and travel executives and help spread awareness.
I will keep you updated but in the meantime, please keep signing and sharing: https://www.change.org/p/airport-authorities-standard-policy-for-insulin-pumps-at-airport-security
