Hi everyone, I hope you're having a great summer so far. Today I was doing some searching on the web for more info on the elephant attack that happened at African Lion Safari and found an article in which a witness described the attack.
“The man was attempting to feed the elephant,” he told CTV. “It began ramming him into the wooden structure underneath the stairs.” -Taken from the CTV news article
This sounds absolutely horrifying. The man continued to say he was questioning the ethics of the ride as he watched the elephants walk circle after circle after circle.
I continued reading the article and it said that rides had been temporarily suspended! If this is true, and is still in effect this is incredible news. I can only hope they are permanently stopped, but whether or not that will become public knowledge is questionable. As we all know, Trish Gerth is notoriously silent. Every news article I have read in relation to the attack has said they are still waiting on a response from African Lion Safari.
I think as a manager of such an establishment that being transparent and open to public opinion and demand is essential. She cannot expect to remain mute and expect these problems to go away. I started the petition a year ago, and despite her silence to us this attack has happened, forcing the rides and elephant welfare to become public knowledge.
I also noticed that World Animal Protection has taken interest in African Lion Safari, and I have contacted the to offer my help. The more people fighting for these elephants the better.
As always thank you so much and please do not forget to continue sharing the petition
