Hi everyone,
I know I have not posted an update in a while and unfortunately that is because I have not made any progress on my attempt to stop rides at African Lion Safari. Trish Gerth has still not contacted me since I was at African Lion Safari. I wish I could do more, but I am currently in Australia for a year and can not physically go to the facilities again to try and talk to her.
This does not mean that I have given up. I decided to try something else, which was contact CAZA ( Canadian Accredited Zoos and Aquariums) to ask them to change their regulations in regards to elephant rides at their accredited facilities. As of right now, African Lion Safari is the only facility accredited by CAZA that allows rides.
I did speak to CAZA in October 2018, and I was told that they would be improving their standards and processes. They would also be taking in public consultation. While there was not a set date when this would begin, you may want to watch out for any news on this happening. Your opinion matters, and you can voice your opinion.
You can, like myself, message them directly to say that you do not agree with elephant rides in any country, particularly at facilities that are aimed at conservation and education. I will provide a link below for you to go directly to their website and send them an email.
I also want to say thank you to any new supporters who have signed my petition since I last made an update. We are almost at 35000. That is absolutely incredible. Thank you all so so much.
