Advocating on Abuse and Sexual Assault

The Issue

When I was 13, I lived through the worst 6 months of my life. Thinking I was in a “healthy relationship” turned out to be an abusive one. I endured continuous abuse, many threats, and relentless control which made me believe that it was my fault. I didn’t tell anyone what happened for 2 whole years. I felt isolated and couldn’t find a reason to continue. When i finally reported it they brushed it off and told me “if it happens again watch the warning signs” Those words “if it happens again” have been engraved in my head since then. He was the same age as me and is still out there. He’s gotten away with so much, it’s hard to watch him go on with his life while I’m grieving over mine. It plunged me into a severe state of depression. The trauma even led me to contemplate suicide. I felt trapped, as though there was no escape from this experience. It’s been almost 4 years now and yet, I’m still here fighting for “justice”. Unfortunately, it still happens to others.

In Canada during 2019, there were more than 1000 reported cases of domestic violence and sexual assault (Crime Statistics in BC). However, I know the actual numbers are likely significantly higher due to the fear and risk which often results in cases not being reported.

With this petition, I aim to amplify the awareness of abuse and sexual assault, to make sure this community can recognize, report, and prevent such acts. I feel the need to spread awareness about this issue because many people are not ready to share their stories about what really happened. I want them to know that you are not alone and you will not feel this way forever.

By sharing my story, I hope to inspire and change by, talking about it, educate, learn and, most importantly, preventing it from others. No one should ever have to endure the suffering I did, feeling trapped and alone. Feeling like you’re not valid. Donations will be going to: https://sexualassaultsupport.ca/donate/  -In BC. Thank you for your consideration.
