Advocate for the Abolishment of the Electoral College

Advocate for the Abolishment of the Electoral College
The Issue
As a new voter, I have now entered the American political experience that disenfranchises individual voters. My vote, and those of millions of other Americans, are overshadowed by the Electoral College. This outdated system established in 1787, no longer represents the American demographic and it is time for a change that reflects our modern society.
.
Young voters, you are the key to a more prosperous and equal American electoral system. You are the demographic that can drive this change. We need your voice to highlight this issue and demand reform. The Electoral College has promoted a system where candidates focus solely on geography and not the population. Large swaths of voters, like yourself, are ignored simply because the location you reside in does not serve an important purpose in determining future leaders. Large population centers like New York, LA, and others are no longer viewed as essential stops for candidates to receive the votes to become President of the United States (Spilerman). All of our lives we have been told that voting matters. Does it? The Electoral College has ensured that our votes hold less weight than the voters in the so-called "competitive states". The right to vote is an essential part of our American identity, we cannot let an outdated system control the impact of our vote and voice in this Democracy.
By signing this petition, you are standing up for true democracy where every citizen's vote carries equal weight. You are telling those in power that they must listen and take action on the issues that affect our generation. The young voters of this country are coming to power. If future candidates want to obtain the presidency, they must answer our calls. This starts by eliminating the Electoral College to ensure all of our voices are heard. For too long we as young people have been told our voices do not matter. We cannot sit back and let our votes be diluted either. Let us rally together to abolish the Electoral College and ensure our votes count equally regardless of where we live. Please sign this petition today!
