The Issue

As a member of a minority group, every workday I witness the inequities faced by my fellow minority colleagues. Time and again, I have seen qualified and deserving individuals being passed over for promotions, or being treated unfairly solely because of their identity. We are not asking for special treatment; we are asking for equal treatment, merit-based opportunities, and a supportive working environment.

The issue of discrimination and unfair treatment in the workplace is not new, but it continues to persist despite longstanding calls for equality and inclusivity. According to a report by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), over 68,000 workplace discrimination charges were filed in 2020 alone. Discrimination based on race, color, or national origin accounted for a significant portion of these cases, highlighting the ongoing struggle minority employees face daily.

What we need is an on-site dedicated support system or officer focused specifically on minority issues. This support person will ensure that concerns related to discrimination are heard, addressed promptly, and effectively. They will facilitate open dialogues and training sessions to foster an inclusive culture, and oversee a transparent review process for promotions. Ensuring that all promotional practices are clear, fair, and merit-based is crucial in breaking down the barriers that minority employees often encounter.

I am tired of seeing colleagues suffer in silence, and witnessing talent being overlooked, not because of the lack of capability but due to a lack of opportunity and an unlevel playing field. Having an on-site diversity and equality officer would not only serve the minority employees but enhance the overall workplace environment, driving productivity and morale through diversity and inclusivity.

Join me in urging our leaders and organizations to implement on-site support dedicated to minority representation and fairness. Let us build workplaces where everyone, regardless of their background, has an equal opportunity to succeed. Sign this petition to advocate for fair treatment and justice in the workplace for minority employees. Your support can drive the change needed for a better tomorrow.
