Meta's recent formation of an all-white, all-male AI advisory Group underscores a glaring issue: the lack of diversity in tech decision-making bodies. This exclusion of women, people of colour, and other underrepresented groups perpetuates a cycle where marginalized voices are ignored despite their crucial contributions to AI technology. It’s not just about fairness—diverse perspectives are essential to address AI technologies' ethical and social implications, ensuring they benefit all areas of society.

AI technologies have shown racial biases that disproportionately impact marginalized communities. With a lack of diversity in the group driving AI development, there's a real risk of reinforcing existing inequalities and overlooking critical challenges faced by minority groups.

As a Black woman in tech who cared for a disabled father, I've seen firsthand the positive impact of inclusive technology. We need Meta to recognize that diverse advisory boards are not just morally right but practically necessary to prevent the replication of historical injustices.
