Slut-shaming is being labeled a sexually out-of-control girl or woman and then being punished socially for possessing this identity. Slut-shaming is sexist because only girls and women are called to task for their sexuality, whether real or imagined; boys and men are congratulated for the exact same behavior. This is the essence of the sexual double standard: Boys will be boys, and girls will be sluts. 

One way or another, women are always being judged by the society because of the double standards. If you dress yourself with something too conservative you will be a "prude", and if you do dress sexily, then you will automatically be labeled as a "slut". 

It is an alarming problem because nowadays calling someone a "slut" is as easy as breathing, not knowing what that can do to a person. Women's sex lives and sexuality are matters of their own choices, and nobody else's business. People often criticize women's appearance for being too sexual in order to control women. They also often blame women for being victims/survivors of rape, by using similar appearance-based criticisms. Both of these uses of shame in order to dominate and control women are examples of rape culture.

Do not let this issue prevail in the society. Women are not mere objects that can be labeled with anything that comes to mind. Women are fighting, struggling, and aiming to be respected. Take a stand against this. Women can freely do anything that they want. Dress however they like. And raise a voice to be heard.

If you see and hear someone being humiliated and publicly slut-shamed, do not be afraid to step up and take actions.
