Hey Supporters!
Thanks so much for continuing to share the petition, emailing decision makers, and showing up to various community planning meetings. Your love and care for this treasured green space is being heard and recognized. We have some exciting updates to share.
- We met with the University Heights Community Association to provide a short term & organized solution to some of the applicants concerns. This hill is being maintained by neighbors but there is no organized group or platform for us to connect. UHCA has proposed putting together a mini beautification team the community can sign up for to tend to this space, as well help with a separate fundraising page through their non-profit we can use for bigger maintenance issues and goals. Stay tuned for more details on these as we get things set up.
- The North Park Planning Committee UDPR Sub-Committee voted to take an action last night's meeting (1/6/26). The action is to pen a letter including 3 main points to the City. 1 - to reject the application for vacation of ROW, 2 - In the short term, work with the community on maintenance of the space, 3 - the long term goal of the city taking ownership of the property & turning it into a pocket park as indicated in the North Park Community Plan. Before this letter gets approved and sent to the city, it will come before the North Park Planning Committee's Full Board. This will be a meeting open to the public and is held the 3rd Tuesday of the month. If you would like to join please go to their website and register for meeting updates. https://www.northparkplanning.org/
While these committees may be making recommendations, they are by no means a governing body, the city has ultimate say over what will happen with the space and when. We will continue to pursue the goal of the city owning the land & creating a pocket park with this space, protecting it from a ROW vacation for future generations of our beloved community. Thank you so much for any/all support you have provided, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside you all on this endeavor.
Please take a look at the official meeting minutes once they are posted for more detail & official verbiage of the recommendation on the NPPC UDPR meeting.
