Key Burnham Aide Calls Winter Fuel Payments "Little Freebies"!
Yes it is true, the likely chief of staff of Andy Burnham as Prime Minister, James Purnell, is on record calling pensioner benefits, including the winter fuel payment, "little Freebies". Do we want this man to have the ear of the PM and what does it say about the type of people around Burnham?
Dennis Reed the Director of Silver Voices is quoted in the Daily Express today :
“Andy Burnham needs to be careful not to replace one set of anti-pensioner voices, with different faces but the same discriminatory views.
"Calling the essential winter fuel payments 'freebies' is arrogant, entitled and downright cruel. I hope Mr Purnell can reflect from his position of wealth and comfort and apologise to poor pensioners for these ill-judged comments."
