The challenge of undocumented immigration directly affects me and my loved ones. Friends and family members in our South African community are losing job opportunities day by day to people without valid documentation. These activities from undocumented foreigners are not just impacting our livelihoods but also transforming the character of our neighborhood and causing worrying increases in crime rates.

According to Statistics South Africa, the national unemployment rate is at a high of 34.4% in the second quarter of 2021. This problem is further exacerbated in communities, like ours, where undocumented foreigners are residing and working illegally. It is also a matter of public safety as the South African Police Service has expressed concerns about rising crime rates, which are attributed in part to undocumented immigration.

Our neighborhood, our community, deserves to retain its identity, its jobs, and its safety. It is imperative that greater control be established over immigration and that local job opportunities are preserved for legal South African citizens. We demand that the government addresses undocumented immigration in our neighborhood, provides support to those who have lost jobs, and ensures our safety.
