උග්‍ර වන ජල අර්බුදය සහ එහි සැඟවුණු හේතුව
 

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව පුරා ව්‍යාප්ත වෙමින් පවතින ජල හිඟය, අද වන විට මිලියන සංඛ්‍යාත ජනතාවකගේ ජීවනෝපායන්ට සහ දෛනික පැවැත්මට බරපතල තර්ජනයක් වී ඇත. මෙම අර්බුදයට බලපාන බොහෝ සාධක අතර, පුළුල් ලෙස ව්‍යාප්ත වී ඇති පයින් වගාවන්ගෙන් සිදුවන පාරිසරික හානිය බොහෝ විට නිසි අවධානයට ලක් නොවන ප්‍රධාන සාධකයකි. ආර්ථිකමය අරමුණු හඳුන්වා දුන්නද, මෙම පයින් වගා හේතුවෙන් අපගේ වටිනා භූගත ජල සම්පත ශීඝ්‍රයෙන් ක්ෂය වෙමින් පවතී. පයින් ගස්වල ඇති අතිවිශාල සහ ගැඹුරට විහිදෙන මූල පද්ධතිය මගින් පසෙහි ඇති ජලය අධික ලෙස උරා ගැනීම මෙයට හේතුවයි.

විද්‍යාත්මක සාක්ෂි සහ පාරිසරික බලපෑම
 

'ජල විද්‍යාව සහ පරිසර පර්යේෂණ' (Journal of Hydrology and Environmental Research) වැනි ජාත්‍යන්තර පර්යේෂණ වාර්තාවල පවා පෙන්වා දී ඇත්තේ, දේශීය ශාක හා සසඳන විට පයින් වගාවන් සැලකිය යුතු ලෙස වැඩි ජල ප්‍රමාණයක් පරිභෝජනය කරන බවයි. මෙම තත්ත්වය හේතුවෙන්:

• ප්‍රදේශ රැසක භූගත ජල මට්ටම් භයානක ලෙස පහත වැටී ඇත.
• පානීය ජල මූලාශ්‍ර සිඳී යමින් පවතී.
• කෘෂිකාර්මික කටයුතු සඳහා අවශ්‍ය ජලය සීමා වී ඇත.
• ස්වභාවික ජල චක්‍රය අඩපණ වීමෙන් දේශීය ජෛව විවිධත්වයද දැඩි අවදානමකට ලක්වී ඇත.
   

අපගේ යෝජනාව: තිරසාර විසඳුම
 

මෙම ජල අර්බුදයට තිරසාර විසඳුමක් ලෙස, පයින් වගාවන් ක්‍රමානුකූලව ඉවත් කර, ඒ වෙනුවට හල්මිල්ල, කොස්, කුඹුක් සහ මී වැනි දේශීය ශාක විශේෂ යොදාගත් වන වගා ව්‍යාපෘති ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන ලෙස අපි යෝජනා කරමු. දේශීය ශාක අපගේ පරිසර පද්ධතියට ස්වභාවිකවම අනුවර්තනය වී ඇති අතර, ඒවායින් ලැබෙන ප්‍රතිලාභ රැසකි.

අඩු ජල පරිභෝජනය: දේශීය දේශගුණයට ඔරොත්තු දෙන බැවින් ජලය අරපිරිමැස්මෙන් භාවිත කරයි.
ජල උල්පත් සුරැකීම: භූගත ජලය සුරක්ෂිත කර, ජල උල්පත් නැවත පෝෂණය කරයි.
පස සරු කිරීම: පසෙහි ගුණාත්මකභාවය වර්ධනය කර, පාංශු ඛාදනය වළක්වයි.
ජෛව විවිධත්වයට සහාය වීම: දේශීය සත්ත්ව විශේෂ සඳහා ආහාර සහ වාසස්ථාන සපයයි.
 

රජයෙන් අපගේ ඉල්ලීම්
 

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අනාගත පරපුර වෙනුවෙන් ජල සුරක්ෂිතතාව තහවුරු කිරීමට, ගරු අමාත්‍යතුමාගේ නායකත්වය යටතේ රජය විසින් පහත පියවර කඩිනමින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ඇතැයි අපි විශ්වාස කරමු.

පයින් වගාවන් ක්‍රමානුකූලව ඉවත් කිරීම: දැනට පවතින පයින් වගාවන් පිළිබඳ පුළුල් සමීක්ෂණයක් පවත්වා, ඒවා අදියර වශයෙන් ඉවත් කිරීමට ජාතික ප්‍රතිපත්තියක් සකස් කිරීම.
දේශීය වන වගා ප්‍රවර්ධනය: ඉවත් කරන පයින් වගා භූමිවල, පරිසරයට හිතකාමී දේශීය ශාක නැවත වගා කිරීම සඳහා සවිස්තරාත්මක සැලැස්මක් ආරම්භ කිරීම.
මහජන සහභාගීත්වය: මෙම වැඩපිළිවෙළ සඳහා පාරිසරික සංවිධාන, ප්‍රජා සංවිධාන සහ මහජනතාවගේ ක්‍රියාකාරී දායකත්වය ලබා ගැනීම සඳහා දැනුවත් කිරීමේ වැඩසටහන් ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීම.
මෙම පෙත්සම අත්සන් කිරීමෙන්, ඔබ ශ්‍රී ලංකාව සඳහා තිරසාර හා සුරක්ෂිත ජල අනාගතයක් වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටී. අපගේ ජල මූලාශ්‍ර විනාශ කරන පයින් වගාවන් ඉවත් කර, ඒ වෙනුවට අපේම දේශීය ගස් වගා කිරීමට වහාම පියවර ගන්නා ලෙස රජයට බල කර සිටීමට අප හා එක්වන්න.

The Worsening Water Crisis and Its Hidden Cause

The water scarcity that is spreading across Sri Lanka has now become a serious threat to the livelihoods and daily existence of millions of people. Among the many factors contributing to this crisis, the environmental damage caused by the widespread pine plantations is a major factor that often goes unnoticed. Despite the economic objectives introduced, these pine plantations are rapidly depleting our precious groundwater resources. This is because the vast and deep root system of pine trees absorbs excess water from the soil.

Scientific Evidence and Environmental Impact

Even international research reports such as the 'Journal of Hydrology and Environmental Research' have shown that pine plantations consume significantly more water compared to native plants. Due to this situation:

• Groundwater levels in many areas have dropped alarmingly.
• Drinking water sources are drying up.
• Local biodiversity is also at risk due to the disruption of the natural water cycle.
• Water for agriculture is limited.

Our proposal: Sustainable solution

As a sustainable solution to this water crisis, we propose to gradually remove pine plantations and implement afforestation projects using native plant species such as halmilla, kos, kumbuk and mee instead. Native plants are naturally adapted to our ecosystem, and they provide many benefits.

Low water consumption: Water is used sparingly as it is resilient to the local climate.
Water source protection: Protects groundwater and recharges water sources.
Soil enrichment: Improves soil quality and prevents soil erosion.
Supporting biodiversity: Provides food and habitat for native fauna.

Our demands from the government

We believe that the government, under the leadership of the Hon. Minister, will promptly implement the following steps to ensure water security for the future generations of Sri Lanka.

Systematic removal of pine plantations: Conduct a comprehensive survey of existing pine plantations and formulate a national policy to remove them in phases.
Promotion of indigenous forestry: Initiate a detailed plan to replant environmentally friendly indigenous plants in the pine plantations that are being removed.
Public participation: Implement awareness programs to actively engage environmental organizations, community organizations and the public in this program.
