As a resident of Dean Lake, Ontario, I am witnessing firsthand the growing concerns and challenges resulting from the sinkhole that emerged on April 24, 2025, on the Dean Lake Road at the intersection of Trans Canada Highway 17. The closure of the Dean Lake Bridge due to this incident has disrupted the fabric of daily life in our community in profound ways.

The detour that has been instituted is untenable. Our children endure a prolonged commute on school buses, sometimes adding up to an hour or more to their journey. This not only exhausts them but also cuts into time that could be better spent on homework or family activities.

Timely emergency services are critical, and the current situation jeopardizes our safety with delayed response times. Moreover, the disruption has forced a reduction in mail delivery from five days a week to only two, which is simply unacceptable. This impacts our personal communications and the delivery of essential goods and services to our doors.

To mitigate these pressing issues, it is crucial for the Municipal Council to make immediate interim repairs to the Dean Lake Bridge. Prioritizing the reopening of this critical infrastructure will restore normalcy and ensure that emergency services can be provided efficiently, our deliveries are consistent, and our children's commute is safe and reasonable.
