Address the Housing Crisis for Women and Gender Diverse People This Federal Election

Address the Housing Crisis for Women and Gender Diverse People This Federal Election
The issue
We are calling for political candidates and parties from all sides of politics to commit to addressing the housing crisis for women, gender diverse people and their families this Federal Election.
Every person deserves a safe place to call home and the opportunity for an equal future in Australia. Yet, we know this is far from reality for many women, gender diverse people and their families in Australia.
Barriers to having a safe, affordable and accessible home are made higher because of gender inequality and domestic and family violence - which is the main reason women and girls become homeless in Australia.
This is why YWCA Australia has launched our 2025 Federal Election campaign, Safe Homes, Equal Futures. Because we know safe homes are the starting point for equal futures. Sign our petition and join our calls for every political candidate and party to make addressing the housing crisis for women, gender diverse people and their families a priority.
Support our five-point plan to address this crisis by urging political representatives to commit to and advocate for:
- Increase the Supply of Safe, Secure, and Affordable Housing for women, gender-diverse people, and their families.
- Increase Investment in Regional Housing to ensure access to safe and affordable homes outside urban centres.
- Increase and Sustain Funding for Gender-Responsive Services, including homelessness and family and domestic violence support.
- Amplify Young Voices by ensuring young women and gender-diverse people shape housing policy.
- Enhance Renter Experience by improving rental affordability and security.
Together, we can ensure that every woman and gender-diverse person in Australia has access to the safe, affordable, and secure housing they deserve.
