With the increase of pedestrians, mainly children, crossing at the intersection of Merrick Avenue and Camp Avenue there is a great need for extra precautions to keep our children safe. In the last couple of years at least 4 pedestrians have been hit at this intersection, 3 of whom are elementary school children. This does not only effect the Camp Avenue School students. This is for the safety of the MAMS, Calhoun, Old Mill, Chatterton students and all of the neighborhood children that cross at this intersection. 

This intersection has been a known area of concern and the community has requested another crossing guard in the past, much to no avail. It is time to have our voices heard before another child gets injured or God forbid killed. 

A few simple changes can help to keep our children safe. We need an extra crossing guard, cross lights that work correctly and that face all corners. 

In some school districts, they have a light that turns red on all 4 sides for a short period of time so that the pedestrians can cross safely.
