Every day, I watch my children cross Roper Road in Blue Haven on their way to and from school, and each time I'm filled with anxiety as I witness cars speeding recklessly, ignoring the speed limits. As a parent, it's terrifying to think that one day those cars might fail to stop, and a life could be lost in the blink of an eye. Roper Road is a bustling area, frequented not just by families and children, but by members of our wider community.

Unfortunately, the lack of proper pedestrian crossings and traffic calming measures has turned what should be a safe journey into a potential hazard. The speed at which vehicles are travelling is not only a daily threat to my children, but also to elderly residents, cyclists, joggers, and everyone who uses this route.

Recent studies have shown that implementing speed bumps and crossings significantly reduces vehicular speeds and enhances pedestrian safety, thereby preventing accidents and saving lives. Local councils, such as ours, have witnessed positive impacts in areas where such measures have been put in place.

What we need is simple: install speed bumps and pedestrian crossings on Roper Road. This will compel drivers to slow down and give the community designated places to cross safely. By taking these actions, we can prevent what could be a tragic accident waiting to happen.

I urge the Central Coast Council to prioritise the installation of these safety features. By demonstrating our collective concern and commitment to safety, we can press for immediate action.
