Add Sign Languages to Duolingo- They are languages too!

The Issue

Sign languages ARE LANGUAGES and not just "accessibility assistants." With Duolingo being one of the most widely used apps for language learning why not add sign language to their curriculums?!

Sign language has been overlooked time and time again. Not being recognised as a language and therefore not being taught in schools, and not being showcased on television or any widely consumed media, has pushed sign language into a corner. Yes, there are creators online that teach sign language and paid courses people can take but it's something that you have to go searching after. People are often learning incorrect sign language as a result of online frauds or underqualified teachers giving out the wrong information. Deaf people are the most qualified to teach sign language and if there isn't sign language on Duolingo, that leads me to believe Duolingo hasn't attempted to hire any deaf sign language professionals at all. Why would that be so? Let's not brush this under the rug considering a large portion of the whole planet is either deaf or hard of hearing.

Duolingo has been around for a long time and even has languages that don't exist in real life like High Valyrian and Klingon- languages that were explicitly created for use in fictional universes. Real languages like ASL, BASL, BSL, LSE, JSL and so many more are extremely beautiful and enormously useful yet somehow less available than made up languages. That needs to change right now.

Please sign this petition to get their attention. If you're like me and you love learning languages, and Duolingo has worked for you, then please sign this petition! Let's let them hear us! We want to add sign language courses to Duolingo that are taught by deaf language instructors.

Please sign this petition and repost so other people sign as well! I want everyone to participate to let them know we want to make Duolingo more accessible.
