Despite its widespread celebration and cultural importance, Nowruz is not recognized as an official date on the United States calendar, impacting millions of Americans of Persian and related heritage who celebrate this ancient tradition.

What is at stake?

The absence of Nowruz as an official day on the United States calendar undermines the recognition and celebration of the cultural diversity and heritage of Persian-speaking communities within the country. Furthermore, in an increasingly interconnected world, recognizing Nowruz as an official day aligns with the values of global citizenship and understanding.

نوروز، سال نو ایرانی، به 3000 سال قبل از میلاد مسیح باز می گردد و تقریباً 300 میلیون نفر در سراسر جهان جشن می گیرند. کشورهایی از جمله ایران، ترکیه، آذربایجان، تاجیکستان، افغانستان، ازبکستان، قرقیزستان، قزاقستان، گرجستان، ترکمنستان، عراق، سوریه، پاکستان، هند، روسیه، آلبانی و مقدونیه شمالی، نوروز را به عنوان یک تعطیلات فرهنگی و سنتی مهم می دانند. با وجود جشن‌های گسترده و اهمیت فرهنگی، نوروز به‌عنوان یک تاریخ رسمی در تقویم ایالات متحده به رسمیت شناخته نمی‌شود و بر میلیون‌ها آمریکایی ایرانی و میراث مرتبط که این سنت باستانی را جشن می‌گیرند، تأثیر می‌گذارد.

 چرا اکنون زمان اقدام است؟

با توجه به جشن جهانی و اهمیت تاریخی نوروز و با توجه به نزدیک بودن نوروز، زمانی بهتر از این نیست که به طور رسمی آن را به عنوان یک روز در تقویم ایالات متحده به رسمیت بشناسیم. همانطور که کشور تلاش می کند تا اصول تنوع فرهنگی، تساهل و شمول را حفظ کند، قدردانی از نوروز نشان دهنده تعهد به احترام به سنت ها و میراث همه شهروندانش است. علاوه بر این، در جهانی که به طور فزاینده ای به هم پیوسته است، به رسمیت شناختن نوروز به عنوان یک روز رسمی با ارزش های شهروندی و درک جهانی همسو است.
