Idas Valley is home to many students who commute daily to and from the university. The current shuttle service is inadequate, leaving many students vulnerable during early morning and late-night commutes. We demand an increase in morning shuttles and more evening shuttles to ensure safe transportation for all students.

A close friend of mine, a diligent student at Stellenbosch University, was robbed while walking home late after a long study session on campus. This traumatic event not only disrupted their learning but also highlighted the urgent need for increased safety measures for students living in Idas Valley.

Additionally, we call upon the university administration to extend campus security into Idas Valley. It's crucial that our fellow students feel safe both on campus and within their own neighbourhoods. A university especially an open campus, cannot expect to accredit accommodation in areas where a student's safety is unfavourable

According to South African Police Service statistics, there were 1,682 reported robberies in Stellenbosch during 2019/2020 (South African Police Service Annual Report). This number is alarmingly high considering that it includes incidents involving innocent students like my friend who are just trying to get an education.
