Add More Trash Bins, Increase Littering Fines, & Improve Signage at Orange County Beaches!

The Issue

We are a group of 10/11-year-old girls from Girl Scouts of Orange County Troop 7650 who love animals and want to protect them. We believe that our beloved beaches should be a clean and safe environment for all creatures that inhabit it. However, we have noticed an increasing amount of litter on our shores which is harmful to the wildlife we cherish.

We urge the city council of Laguna Beach and beaches of Orange County to take immediate action by adding more trash bins along the beachfront. This will encourage visitors to dispose of their waste responsibly instead of leaving it on the sand or in the ocean where it can harm marine life.

We also propose an increase in fines for littering. According to Keep America Beautiful, higher fines can act as a prevention against littering (source: Keep America Beautiful). By increasing penalties for those who choose not to respect our environment, we can further discourage this damaging behavior.

Lastly, we request additional signage about these increased fines be placed prominently around the beach area. Clear communication about consequences has been shown effective in reducing instances of littering (source: Environmental Protection Agency).

By implementing these changes, we believe that together with adults and politicians' help, we can make a significant impact on preserving our beautiful beaches and protecting all animals outside and inside the ocean.

Please sign this petition if you too want to see change at Laguna Beach and Orange County Beaches - let's give voiceless animals the protection they deserve!
