Add metal detectors and increased security precautions to hays CISD schools
The Issue
On September 4th, 2025. A student at Hays high school brought a handgun into the school, causing a breach of what the district calls "security". We are no longer safe in our schools, in fact, at Hays CISD, it has been apparent that safety has not been their number 1 priority.
They talk about safety and make a bunch of promises of keeping these students safe, yet they never end up following up and enforcing these protocols to ensure the integrity and safety of the school environment. School violence is becoming increasingly more common, students should not have to worry about coming to school and exiting injured or dead. Currently, there's only a HANDFUL of SRO'S and approximately 2,191 students attending Hays High school. But this isn't just about Hays high school.. we want these changes enforced throughout the entire district. We want metal detectors, dog sweeps, and AI violence predictors that stop events before they happen to be in place for every single grade level. In addition to that, we need administrators at EVERY campus that takes threats of harm toward other students seriously, whether it's bringing a weapon to school or verbally threatening another student. All of the following enforcements I have mentioned should be enforced for every grade, from kindergarten to the 12th grade.
Our bags are checked for when we enter the stadiums for 2 hours football games, yet there are no procedures in place for a building where we spend over 8 hours a day in.
We have let so many incidents happen in these schools, student health and safety is at stake. America has been shaken from school violence many times previously. We need to step up and make a change for the greater and benefit of everybody whom is present at all hays CISD school buildings.
FACTS AND STATS:
- 3% of kids bring a weapon to school, when calculated, that is 1 in 33 students.
- Fire Arms are the leading cause of death in school violence
- Weapons, when used, often come from home or are gifted by relatives.
- Nearly 50% of violence perpetrators gave warning of when they'll commit a violent act.
- Bullying, Ostracizing, and discrimination are the main cause of the start of school violence.
