In 2014, Nintendo released a 2D side-scrolling action-platform game by the name of Azure Striker: Gunvolt. Set in the near future, a ruthless organization called Sumeragi Group plans on world domination by controlling and experimenting on adepts, superhuman individuals with special abilities. However, one adept named Gunvolt seeks to reveal Sumeragi's true colors and bring them to justice. With his trusted companion Lumen by his side, GV dedicates his life to use his electrical powers for the good of humanity.

Those characters included Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pikachu from Pokemon, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Link from Legend of Zelda, and Mega Man.
