Add a traffic signal at the intersection of Cambridge Road & Mt. Rose Ave in York, PA
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are calling on York County and Pennsylvania transportation officials to install a traffic light at the intersection of Cambridge Road and Mt. Rose Avenue in York, PA.
Currently, Mt. Rose Avenue has the right-of-way, and traffic flow along this road is constant, particularly during peak hours. STOP signs are posted at Cambridge Road and at the Heritage Hills Resort exit, requiring drivers to come to a complete stop before attempting to turn onto Mt. Rose Avenue. However, because of the relentless oncoming traffic on Mt. Rose Avenue, these stops are followed by excessively long waits and risky maneuvers.
This creates significant challenges and safety concerns for drivers attempting to:
- Make a left onto Mt. Rose Avenue from Cambridge Road – where non-stop oncoming traffic often forces drivers to wait for extended periods, creating frustration and dangerous hesitation. This often leads to taking risky gaps to proceed.
- Make a left turn onto Mt. Rose Avenue from Heritage Hills Resort – where drivers face the same relentless flow of vehicles.
This situation increases the likelihood of collisions, causes unnecessary delays, and negatively impacts residents, local businesses, and visitors to the area. Heritage Hills Resort, a major destination in York, is particularly affected, as its guests and staff struggle daily with the difficulty of entering onto Mt. Rose Avenue safely.
A properly timed traffic signal at this intersection would:
- Improve traffic flow and reduce dangerous wait times.
- Increase safety for all drivers and pedestrians in the area.
- Better serve the needs of local residents, visitors, and businesses.
We respectfully request PennDOT District 8’s Traffic Signals Manager, Cory Poff (cpoff@pa.gov; 717-772-5104), to evaluate and install a traffic signal at Cambridge Road & Mt. Rose Avenue. We also urge support from York County’s Center for Traffic Safety (Barbara Zortman / Missy Sweitzer) and the York County Planning Commission Transportation Planning Chief for technical guidance and traffic count data. Finally, we ask PennDOT District 8 (717-787-6653) to prioritize this intersection in their safety improvements before further preventable accident occur at this intersection.
Please sign and share this petition so that our voices are heard, and the changes we urgently need can be made.
