The Intersection Located At Liberty Road South and Ewald Ave South in Salem Oregon is a particularly dangerous intersection. There have been numerous accidents at the intersection, some being life threatening and others actually resulting in deaths. The intersection currently has a blinking red light and a no left turn sign for drivers heading in either direction on Liberty, but the posted signs and light are often disregard by drivers, who turn left at the intersection anyway. The combination of Drivers ignoring the Posted No turn Signs, along with a restricted sight distance approaching the intersection, has lead to many many accidents, some of which have proven to have been tragic and as of recently, deadly. This petition is to change the intersection Located at Liberty road South and Ewald Ave South to include a stop Light or a four way stop at the very least. The High Rate of accidents at this intersection is truly appalling and needs to be addressed. On March 21st 2022, an accident occured at this intersection which resulted in the tragic death of Zachary Ray Murfin. Zac and His girlfriend were on their way home to 541 Ewald Ave, literally around 250 feet from the intersection in question, when they were T boned by an oncoming vehicle as they turned onto Ewald Ave S. Zac and His girlfriend were trapped in the backseat of the vehicle, and sustained life threatening injuries, and Zac Sadly passed away from his injuries Later on at the hospital. Zachary Murfin was an exceptional human being with so much life left to live and he will be truly deeply missed by so many people who got the privilege of knowing him.
