5 million people. You are one of 5 million people who’ve signed this campaign because you saw the humanity in Elijah. So many of us watched videos of this funny, sweet guy and were reminded of someone we love. Elijah was someone’s son, neighbor, friend, and he should be alive today. 

I certainly did, which is why I started the petition. But today I’m stepping back and handing the petition into the capable hands of Saraya, who is behind the Instagram handle @justiceforelijahmcclain. She works in constant consultation with Elijah’s mother, and has already done incredible work. I’m excited for you all to hear from her. 

It’s been an honor to witness what can happen when we raise our voice. I will continue to use my voice to advocate for Black lives and stand up to racism in my daily life.
