Why is the right to die with dignity not recognized in India for people suffering with mental illnesses?

 

For those enduring unbearable mental illnesses like schizophrenia, OCD, anorexia, chronic depression, or other incurable conditions, the pain can feel endless. Many of them seek relief, not through suffering, but through a dignified end.

Countries like Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Belgium have legalized active euthanasia, giving terminally ill individuals the choice to end their pain with dignity. If they can recognize this basic right, why can’t India?

Death is a natural part of life, and for those facing relentless suffering, choosing it with dignity is an act of compassion, not cruelty.
