We defeated Goliath!!
About a month ago, I found out that mega developer wanted to put 150000ft warehouse with 31 trucks terminals. I did not know who was against it but I felt internally that a warehouse in the heart of forest preserve will be a disaster. I started a petition and turns out I was not the only one who was opposed to this terrible idea. We united 2,500 community members.
After multiple meetings, filming the area to raise awareness, countless hours of ground work by too many people to mention here.
I am happy to report that “democracy does work”. Diligence, determination and hard work paid off. Everything is possible when we are united.
For now, there won’t be a warehouse and truck terminals because 4 courageous Darien alderman voted “No” to this project.
Thank you for signing the petition, knocking on the doors, showing up at city/municipal council meetings with your friends, neighbors and family members. I am afraid that the work is not over yet. Democracy is not an event, it’s a process. This November you will have a chance to pick your next generation leadership that cares about community, environment, public health and safety.
If elected as your forest preserve commissioner, I promise that I will fight for our public lands. I will fight for health of our children. I will remind leadership at the forest preserve board to put people’s health before profits and safety before sales taxes.
