It has been a while since we have given you an update, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been working to Preserve Yorktown and Protect Virginia from mega-cruise ships and their detrimental effects. Princess cancelled their 2024 tour season in Yorktown, but we continue to be vigilant.
We have asked York County to implement a county ordinance to prevent large cruise ships from coming in the future. We have been told that this is being studied but have not yet received word of any significant progress. We will continue to follow this and keep you informed of any updates.
We are beginning to focus our efforts to protect the commonwealth from this industry. To do so we have created a new website: Protect-Virginia.org. Please visit to learn about our efforts. Also, please follow, like, and share the Protect Virginia Facebook page at www.facebook.com/protectvirginia.
Did you know the cruise industry has been lobbying to allow cruise ship gambling in Virginia waters? Protect Virginia has submitted a position paper to the Gaming Subcommittee, A Case Against Cruise Ship Gambling in Virginia Waters. Gambling would further incentivize this unhealthy industry in Virginia waters and should not be allowed.
Next, Protect Virginia plans to petition the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for cruise ship pollution regulations. As this develops, we will share more – stay tuned and again follow the Facebook page for the latest updates.
