I am a resident of this beautiful city, witnessing firsthand the ongoing problem. As we devote our resources to the construction of the ring road, I feel we should focus more on internally strengthening our city. The constant worry of flooding restricts our city's potential for residential and commercial expansion.

Statistically, our beautiful city has seen its fair share of flooding in the past. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Rockhampton has experienced major floods multiple times, the worst being in 2011, which disrupted our lives and livelihoods (Bureau of Meteorology, Australia). Constructing a firm and sturdy South Rockhampton Levee is a reasonable solution to this problem. Its implementation won't just mitigate the flood threat, it will significantly enhance livable space, boosting our potential for residential and commercial growth.

Now that its 2025 we havn't had a flood in 8 years which means were due for a 1 in 8 year flood. And Economically the benefits outway the cost of the project such as avoiding a road upgrade that will cost $57.1m  which is already 78.5% of the projects construction cost. The project will also lower insurance preimums, Improve property value and help bussiness.
