Petition hits 1000 and a response from the Council!

Thank You for your incredible support in reaching over  1000 signatures!

I would also like to share a response received on Thursday from the Public Right of Way Group at  SCC:

“These footpaths are currently closed on safety grounds. There is a failing retaining wall that is likely to cause the upper path (the path from the road to the bridge) to collapse if it fails, and the considerable debris will fall onto the lower (riverside) path if it fails.

We are currently seeking funding to repair this retaining wall, as repairs cannot be funded from our existing budgets. We cannot therefore put a timescale on when the repairs might be completed and the paths re-opened. This is a complicated repair in a very difficult to access location and is likely to be extremely expensive.

We apologise for the ongoing inconvenience.”

We have taken our concerns to our MP and Councillors. 

We will continue to raise awareness through local press also ( LookLocal and Yorkshire Live have already run stories on our campaign)
