Acceptance of Cash Payments in Hotels and Restaurants for Victims of Domestic Violence

Acceptance of Cash Payments in Hotels and Restaurants for Victims of Domestic Violence
The Issue
I, along with many others trapped in difficult circumstances, have experienced first-hand the struggle of finding refuge during a crisis.
Late one night, wrestling with the consequences of domestic violence, I sought safety for myself and my small child. With no access to bank cards, and only cash at my disposal, I turned to what should have been a sanctuary - a hotel.
To my despair, the hotel rejected my cash payment due to its policy as a cashless establishment.
This led to an agonizing search for an alternative accommodation late at night, a reality no one should ever experience.
Apart from the emotional and physical toll of domestic abuse, victims are often financially controlled, making access to bank cards or electronic payment systems a luxury they cannot afford.
Domestic Violence & financial abuse occurs in 99% of domestic violence cases. Our experience is not unique.
Allowing an avenue for cash payments can broaden safe haven options for victims, providing a lifeline in desperate times of need.
Financial accessibility should not be the roadblock preventing individuals from finding safety and refuge. Hence, we implore all authorities to enact legislation requiring restaurants and hotels to accept cash payment, particularly from those seeking respite from domestic violence.
Taking this split second to accept cash does not merely ease transactions but can profoundly impact someone's life.
We need your help to shine a light on this critical issue.
Sign our petition today, and stand with us in the fight against domestic violence and the drive toward financial accessibility for its victims.
