Accelerate Resolution of Child Victims Act Cases to Help Abuse Survivors

Accelerate Resolution of Child Victims Act Cases to Help Abuse Survivors
The Issue
In 2002, I plucked up the courage to confront both the individual and the religious institution that shattered my innocence at the tender age of 12, subjecting me to undue sexual, physical, and mental torment. For 22 long years, I was trapped in a prison of silence, silently berating myself with undeserved blame. A ray of hope emerged on February 14, 2019, when former Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Child Victims Act into Law. This landmark legislation granted tens of thousands of victims like myself, the opportunity to seek justice against those who inflicted untold sufferings, endlessly masked by the mockery of institutions that supposedly personify moral fortitude.
However, the path to justice and closure remains fraught with bottlenecks. While more than 10,000 brave souls have come forward to file Child Victims Act cases since its inception, a meager 17% have made it past the discovery process to resolution, as per the New York Unified Court System. This grueling wait is a grim reminder of our trauma, a new form of mental anguish stealing away our peace.
This petition calls for swift and transparent action to expedite the resolution process for the voluminous pending Child Victims Act cases. Each unresolved case is a testament to an abuse survivor's prolonged agony, a visible scar on our society's conscience. It's time we address this issue as it should have been - urgently, compassionately, and justly.
Act now. Sign this petition to contribute to the acceleration of justice for each individual awaiting the resolution of their Child Victims Act cases, and help elicit a timely response on reasons for the delay. Your signature stands as an emblem of your support; it serves as a demand for answers for abuse survivors stuck in the entangled web of legal procedures.
