It is clear - now more than ever - that our society needs to be educated on the injustices and policies that have affected the black community for generations. Academy of Art University is one of the few universities in the US that does not offer African American history classes. We need to do better as a nation in dismantling racist policies, and the first step in doing so is to educate ourselves about what has gotten us to this point as a society and how we can make positive change. 

As a school that receives federal funding, it is AAU's responsibility to do their part and offer a structured education on the subject. This can be done by structuring the class(es) around African American art and the culture and hardships that influenced it.
